The vision of the Institute of Language, Arts and Culture (ILAC) at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (SNRU) is to be the institute for knowledge development and distribution to both the local area and the international (GMS – Greater Mekong Subregion) countries. Therefore ILAC has a project plan that responds to the vision mentioned above such as academic services, the production of learning networks and contribution through cooperation among ASEAN countries and finally leading towards developing strategic plans for the ASEAN Community 2015.
As previously mentioned, ILAC has provided the ASEAN strategic action plan emphasizing the ASEAN socio-cultural community which is one of three pillars of ASEAN. The countries in the ASEAN community have socio and cultural similarities called “Co-Culture in Southeast Asia” such as culture of rice, fish, non-timber forest products and salt. These articles have been chosen as a subtheme for the International Conference (East-West Economic Corridor Session) namely “Culture of Rice, Fish, Non-Timber Forest Products, and Salt in Southeast Asia”, which has good co-operation with the National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for sharing academic knowledge. Furthermore, this international conference opens up for researchers, scholars and students in the university both domestically and internationally to submit paper for publication.
